PROFILE: The Cleveland Indians drafted lanky lefthander, Brian Tallet, with their second round pick in the 2000 draft. Tallet pitched for Louisiana State, where he was no stranger to pitching in big games. He quickly went from LSU’s starting pitcher in the championship game of the 2000 College World Series, to beginning his pro career at short-season Mahoning Valley. Always difficult to hit at whatever level of ball he has played, Brian has usually managed to fan at least one batter for every inning pitched. He throws a low-90s fastball, along with a slider and changeup. His tall frame helps to give him an even more imposing presence on the mound. There is no questioning his mental makeup and toughness. Tallet has a greater risk of injury, because with his poor mechanics, he currently throws across his body, but this is something the organization has been trying to correct. FINAL ASSESSMENT: We believe that Brian Tallet will have a long career in the major leagues, simply because he has such a strong physical presence on the mound and is left-handed. However, he will probably never be anything more than a #4 or #5 starter, since none of his pitches are outstanding. We see him going in the middle rounds of the upcoming NABL draft. |
